Bolillos Cafe San Isidro stands out as a charming gem in Laredo, Texas, particularly for those eager to indulge in authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex flavors. Nestled conveniently at 9902 McPherson Rd, this restaurant captivates visitors with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that harmoniously blends bright, airy spaces with artistic decor, including unique commissioned pieces that add a personal, warm touch to the dining experience.
At Bolillos Cafe San Isidro, the focus is clearly on delivering traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern touch and undeniable freshness. One cannot rave enough about their famous Chilaquiles, described by a loyal patron as the best in Laredo, prepared the old-fashioned way with ingredients cooked together to create a harmonious and deeply satisfying dish—instead of just a pile of chips drenched in salsa. The generous portions include refried beans, potatoes, and your choice of two tortillas, making each breakfast truly fulfilling.
The menu is a celebration of authentic dishes and flavors. Start your meal with appetizers like the Shrimp Cocktail, featuring tender shrimp paired with creamy avocado and fresh cilantro, or the hearty Bolillos Panchos, a delightful combination of tortilla chips, beans, fajita meat, and cheese that teases the palate. For something finger-friendly, the Flautitas—bite-sized rolled tacos filled with beef or chicken—come accompanied by creamy avocado, tangy sour cream, and vibrant pico de gallo.
Main courses shine with robust flavors and satisfying textures. The TBone Steak, 10 ounces of perfectly grilled meat, arrives with a classic baked potato, garden-fresh vegetables, and a crisp side salad. For a true taste of Mexico’s hearty fare, the Carne Asada Plate offers fajita-style grilled bell peppers and onions alongside rice, beans, and a quesadilla, exemplifying comfort food elevated by quality and care. The Tampiqueña Plate adds even more variety with a beef taco and enchilada rounding out the platter.
Complementary to the food, the drink options are just as thoughtfully curated. Refresh yourself with house-made Aguas Frescas like Jamaica or energize naturally with fresh juices such as Jugo Verde or Jugo Betabel. The menu also caters to simple pleasures with classics like Iced Tea, Lemonade, or the uniquely Mexican Coca Mexicana.
Beyond the food and drinks, the service at Bolillos Cafe San Isidro leaves a lasting impression. Although some guests note language barriers, the staff's attentiveness and genuine hospitality transcend words, creating a welcoming environment where everyone can feel at home. Several reviewers praise the prompt service and friendly demeanor, with one customer highlighting how their coffee cup was never empty—a small but telling sign of care.
The ambiance is relaxed yet vibe-filled; breakfast and brunch feel especially inviting in this space marked by warmth and brightness. The smell of freshly brewed coffee mingles with baked goods like the grilled sweet concha, which delights with its toasted buttery finish—an absolute must-try for sweet bread lovers. Whether you’re savoring a crispy, fragrant french toast or enjoying the rich, satisfying egg and bacon bolillo sandwich, each bite invites comfort and indulgence.
While parking can be a challenge during busy hours and occasional strong cleaning product scents have been noted, these minor drawbacks are easily overlooked once the dishes arrive at your table. Prices are very reasonable given the portion sizes and quality of ingredients, making Bolillos Cafe San Isidro a fantastic spot for both locals and travelers seeking authentic flavors without stretching their budget.
In short, Bolillos Cafe San Isidro is more than a restaurant—it’s a celebration of tradition, flavor, and heartfelt service. If you find yourself in Laredo looking for honest Mexican dishes, fresh ingredients, and a space that feels like a friend’s dining room, this is the place to visit day after day.

Bolillos has the best Chilaquiles in Laredo! Unlike other places, where they serve you a pile of chips covered in salsa and cheese, these are prepared the old-fashioned way, with all the ingredients thoroughly cooked. The portion is also significant: it includes a side of refried beans, potatoes, and two tortillas of your choice. I had breakfast here five days in a row while visiting Laredo, and I always ordered the same thing. Every time, the presentation, taste, quality, and portion were consistently the same. Finally, the atmosphere was excellent, and the staff was fantastic! Well done, Bolillos!

I do not speak Spanish and the waitress did not speak English. However we were able to get my order and it was delicious! Exactly what I wanted the way I wanted it. The staff was very attentive and my coffee was never empty. Highly recommend!

Pros - food is some of the best I've had in Laredo. Portions are generous and delicious. Their pastries are very good and the quality is great. Lots of staff that is very helpful. Cons- the stench of Fabuloso hits you as soon as you reach the door and permeates throughout the restaurant. While there's plenty of staff 99% of them don't speak English which limits the customers ability to order. I noticed an out of town couple trying to order coffee The server had trouble differentiating between regular and decaf. 3 different servers tried helping them with the menu. Finally an English speaking server was found. In this day and age customer service, in Laredo should be able to speak both languages. especially along the border. While you might not need to speak English to have a job in Laredo, you will need it to allow Laredo to grow .

Easy to find restaurant and a beautiful setting. Parking can be limited at busy hours but it’s worth it. The coffee was delicious and there are plenty of selections for coffee. The food was prepared fresh and the staff is very friendly. The price is very affordable and won’t break your bank. I will certainly return and try the other dishes. They do have daily specials.

Lovely place to have breakfast or brunch. Cozy atmosphere and cool decoration, including some pieces that were comissioned directly from the artist. Everything we ordered was good. Their grilled concha is a must-try if you like sweet bread, the toasted butter gives it a nice touch. The egg and bacon bolillo made for a tasty, filling breakfast. The french toast is crispy and sweet, one of the best I've tried and the fruit was super fresh. A good surprise from the menu was the Mokalita, a delicious mocha made with Abuelita chocolate and coffee. Highly recommend! Went back on another occasion and tried their Pesto Salmon for lunch, it was also very tasty and filling.

Very good brunch spot. They served a little soup while waiting for our meal. The Chilaquiles were delicious, and the portions were appropriate. I strongly encourage you to try them out! There are downsides, though. The music was a little too loud to carry a conversation across the table. Also, the server didn't speak English to us.
